🌙 Pickleball after dark? No problem.
Now this is cool…
A brand-new pickleball complex in Champaign, Illinois, just became the first of its kind to earn official approval from DarkSky International, the global group working to protect night skies from light pollution.
Why’s that a big deal? Because most outdoor pickleball lighting has neighbors seeing red. Bright floodlights often mean court closures, curfews, and community pushback. But this new setup proves there’s another way.
With carefully shielded fixtures and smart controls that direct light only where it’s needed, players get evening game time without disrupting nearby homes, wildlife, or stargazers.
It's a win for sustainability, and for rec players looking to squeeze in post-work games after dark.
DarkSky says this could be the model for future pickleball courts across the U.S., offering access without the backlash.
I mean, the courts look pretty cool too, right? 😍

No more tossing them in the trash—just bag ’em up, schedule a pickup, and give your gear a second life.
