Level Up

How the pros get the ball back every time

Here’s Rahul, Pickleheads community manager and APP Top 150 player with this week’s top tip:

Well, it doesn't matter what level you are at…all it takes is one simple trick to take your shots from subpar to superb!

The trick? BEND YOUR KNEES and GET LOW! When it comes to slight margins and errors in your game, bending your knees and staying low on your dinks, resets, drops, and even drives makes all the difference.

When you don’t bend your knees, you tend to bend at your back which means your shots will often either pop up or go into the net.

If you make a lot of errors, I bet bending your knees and getting lower will eliminate 80% of them.

Try this tip out over the next week and let us know how it works for you by replying to this email.

Gear We Love

The CRBN-3X

Brandon and the CRBN-3X

Brandon here, co-founder of Pickleheads. I tested over 30 pickleball paddles in 2023 (hard work, right?!). Some weeks I’m testing 2, 3 even 4 new paddles at a time.

But there’s one paddle I just keep coming back to – the CRBN-3X.

CRBN was first in the raw carbon trend and they’re still at the top in my book. I just love the power, spin and responsive feel I get with the Power Series. I recommend the 3X to every intermediate player who asks.

I’ve also met Garrett & Kyle, the CRBN founders and they are great guys. I’m stoked they offered Pickleheads subscribers an exclusive 10% off discount.

How’d you like to play pickleball while on the clock at work? Sounds crazy right?!

Well at Minneapolis-based furniture retailer Room & Board, it’s not only allowed… it’s encouraged. Room & Board's office isn't your typical 9-to-5 grind.

Their office has an indoor pickleball court built onsite – and the idea isn't a flash in the pan either. They've had it since 2013 (right alongside their in-house gym) and its popularity among staff has continued to skyrocket.

But how does it work? Well, here's the juicy bit. Room & Board want their people to work from the Minneapolis HQ at least two days a week. They've got around 350 folks stationed there, and about 50 of them are living the pickleball dream at work.

And get this, they can play it anytime during the workday, just like a casual coffee or lunch break. In fact, they even treat matches like work meetings, organizing times through email, and reserving court space like you’d book a conference room. Paddles and balls are included for all.

“Pickleball is just another outlet for people to de-stress and sweat a little," says Nancy Manley, CPO at Room & Board. Pickleball, as we know, offers mental benefits as well as physical ones.

The way Room & Board sees it – playing pickleball helps their employees stay sharp and productive during work hours. Plus, many workers report they connect with colleagues they'd usually never meet.

So… could we see many more companies picking up the pickleball mantle? If so, will YOU soon be getting paid to play? Let’s hope so…

Brookhaven Country Club

With the USA Pickleball Nationals just around the corner, it's time to shine the spotlight on the host venue, Brookhaven Country Club, as this week's Dream Court of the Week. You’ll find this club in Farmers Branch, TX, just outside of Dallas.

Brookhaven doesn't play around, with 28 outdoor courts and an extra four undercover – just in case the weather acts up! The club invested over $5 million to get ready for Nationals and now has a combined 68 tennis, pickleball, and padel courts.

It’s a racquet sports paradise!

They keep the pickleball party going year-round with leagues, intro sessions, open play days, and this year’s USA Pickleball Nationals.

The tournament kicks off next week and runs Nov 5-12, let the fun begin. 🎾🏆

Meet Erne: The Ultimate Drilling Partner

ERNE's not just a machine; it's the Watson to your Sherlock, the Bert to your Ernie, the pickle to your ball!

The ERNE can level up your game whether you're a Pickleball newbie or 5.0 pro. Who needs friends anyway…

The truth is most pickleball machines are just ball-feeders repurposed from tennis. The ERNE is an actual drilling partner, designed only for pickleball.

It has:

  • The largest hopper (150 balls).

  • Speeds from 10mph to 65mph for dinking and drives.

  • A smartphone app for control.

  • 24 pre-programmed drills and DIY sequences.

  • A sneaky oscillator for unpredictability.

  • 4-8 hour battery life.

  • Portability with retractable handle and removable hopper.

  • Durability with top-quality materials.

The best part we think are the custom drills. We have never seen a machine before with so many custom drills exclusive to pickleball – over 24 drills with 8 variations!

We talked with Ryan Rabidou, ERNE Co-Founder this week and he agreed to give Pickleheads readers $100 off with code PH 100. Woo hoo!

If you want to go up a level, get your Erne before their next production sells out… again 😬
