🎾 Pickleball storms Wimbledon – not everyone’s thrilled
While the world’s leading tennis stars battled it out on Centre Court last week, another kind of thwock-thwock-thwock echoed through Wimbledon Park – pickleball.
Yep, pickleball is officially knocking at the gates of Britain’s most sacred tennis ground.
Hundreds of budding pickleball players showed up to try the sport during the Wimbledon tournament, just a few hundred yards from the All England Club.
And it’s not just a novelty: the UK’s national pickleball membership grew 73% last year, with another 114% jump projected in 2025.
As you can imagine, not everyone's loving it…
Some tennis purists have gone full side-eye, worried the "upstart" game is stealing court time and, well, being a bit too fun.
No surprise, there have been noise complaints, club drama, and even a failed power grab by the national tennis association.
Still, the grassroots movement is powering on. Local clubs say demand is through the roof, and Pickleball England is racing to keep up.
