Imagine youāve just popped the ball up to your opponent and they have the perfect opportunity to volley the ball right back at youā¦
What do you do here? I often see beginner and intermediate players in the right court position do too much! My advice: do as little as possible, because the pace is already on the ball.
You see, if someoneās bringing a lot of pace at you, you donāt want to swing at the ball. Thereās a high chance your return will set them up for another volley. Or worseāgo out.
So, donāt swing, donāt try to sliceā¦
Instead, act like a wall and block the shot. Move your paddle as little as possible, absorb the pace of the ball, and concentrate on directing the ball where you want it to go.
