Residents in Gilbert, Arizona, are suing their own mayor and city officials over a proposed ‘pickleball tax.’

The plan, aimed at keeping up with the sport's skyrocketing popularity, hasn’t exactly been a smash hit with locals.

The city plans to raise additional revenue through the tax hike, with a portion earmarked for building 16 new pickleball courts.

But here’s the twist—it’s not just about pickleball. The tax would also fund other projects, including a 'ninja warrior' assault course, a kids' splash pad, and other community upgrades.

Residents argue that the tax hike is illegal and was pushed through without proper consultation, leaving many feeling like they didn’t get a fair shot to voice their opinions.

With pickleball being America’s fastest-growing sport, this case highlights the growing pains that come with its booming popularity.

The big question: Can Gilbert find common ground and keep the community united, on and off the court?
