Excited to welcome back Tanner Tomassi of Tanner Pickleball, for this week’s Level Up.

Hey Pickleheads readers,

Quick question, when you’re out on the court, do you respect the X?

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you should. Let me take you through it.

Respecting the X removes all confusion about who should take the ball. You or your partner.

Especially if you’re playing with a new partner.

The idea is to think of the court as a big X!

Then, whenever the player diagonally opposite you hits the ball, no matter where the ball lands, it’s your job to step in and take it. And, it’s your partner's job to hold off.

This goes for all areas of the court. Plus, it doesn’t matter if it’s on your forehand or backhand.

This concept is designed to give everyone the equal amount of balls on the court.

Once you become more confident with your partner, you can start declaring which balls you’re going to get. This is usually when the shot is on you or your partner’s forehand.
