Pickleball isn’t just popping up on the courts this December. It’s officially part of holiday TV season too.

According to the LA Times, Lifetime and Hallmark are leaning into sports-themed Christmas movies as a way to stay culturally relevant, tapping into activities people already care about. Pickleball is right in the mix. Last Saturday, A Pickleball Christmas premiered on Lifetime, putting paddles and friendly competition at the heart of a holiday storyline.

It’s not the only example. Other seasonal films this year are built around football, including NFL-inspired plots tied to teams like the Buffalo Bills. The formula is clear. Familiar sports, small-town settings, and feel-good holiday arcs.

For pickleball players, it’s another marker of how mainstream the game has become. A few years ago, it barely registered outside the courts. Now it’s recognizable enough to anchor a Christmas movie aimed at millions.

Subtle? Not exactly. But it does say something about where pickleball sits right now.
