😍 Pure pickleball entertainment, start to finish
This week’s epic point comes from Pickleheads subscriber Ian – yes, that Ian – back again with another gem.
It’s pure pickleball entertainment: lob attempts, fast hands, firefights… this one’s got it all.
Just a bunch of old guys (Ian’s words) out there doing what they love. Playing hard, getting a sweat in, and keeping the rally alive no matter what.
You can feel the joy in every shot. And really, isn’t that what pickleball’s all about?

🤨 Side out, no more? USAP rolls out provisional new scoring system

In one of the biggest shake-ups in the sport’s history, USA Pickleball just announced a provisional move to rally scoring – the kind where every point counts, no matter who’s serving.
It’s a dramatic shift from traditional side-out scoring, where only the serving team racks up points. Under the new format, games are played to 21, with timeouts at 11 and side changes at 6.
Why the change? USA Pickleball says rally scoring could make the game more viewer-friendly, predictable in timing, and easier to understand – especially for new players and broadcast audiences.
“The new scoring system will allow tournament directors of USAP-sanctioned tournaments to use Doubles rally scoring for Round-Robin and Team Play. Singles rally scoring can also be used for Double-Elimination play.”
For now, it’s a provisional rule, not yet the standard for rec or tournament play. But this is the first major step in testing a system that could completely change how the game is played at all levels.
Now, this is going to divide opinion…big time.
