The paddle of 2024 (so far)?
I have a new go-to paddle. Not what youāre expectingā¦
Itās the Pro Line Energy S from Pickleball Apes.
Iāll be honest, I was NOT expecting to find a new favorite paddle while testing it back in December. But I just canāt put it down.
Why? This paddle is unique ā itās made with Kevlar and raw carbon fiber.
To me, Kevlar softens the edges of raw carbon fiber ā and that has a big impact on your game.
It hits hard and has some of the biggest spin Iāve played with. But when you need to slow down, it has that plush feel to get you back in the point.
You can hit those buttery smooth drop shots that get you to the kitchen in a single go š¤
I predict Kevlar paddles will break out in 2024. And right now, Pickleball Apes makes the best one.
If youāre an intermediate who needs a paddle that does a bit of everything, this is my new pick for you.
Because if I show up to a 4.0+ advanced session and can only grab one paddleā¦ this is it.
Iām also happy to share a special 10% off with code PICKLEHEADS. Which takes the price down to a super-reasonable $137.70.
Hope you have as much fun with this paddle as I do :)

A new way to hit drops
Iāll be honestā¦ I hate the 3rd shot drop. It feels more like a golf shot, itās just soooo frustrating.
But I love playing with topspin. And learning how to hit a 3rd shot drop with topspin completely changed my game.
So today - Iām going to teach you how to do it.
First - why try this shot? Well a topspin drop is more offensive than a flat drop.
This is because topspin rotates the ball towards your opponents, which will naturally push them off the kitchen line (good thing!).
Good topspin can also make the ball dip at your opponentās feet. When this happens youāre likely to get a pop up. And then BOOM! Smash for the win.
To hit one:
Bend your knees, get low, and take a small backswing. Keyword - small!
Flick your wrist and move the paddle face up against the ball. Like a windshield wiper. This is what generates topspin.
Follow through gently over your shoulder.
Youāll need more swing speed than a basic drop. But I still recommend keeping a loose grip on your paddle to prevent pop ups.
This shot is easiest when you get a short return in the transition zone. If the return is deep, Iāll stick to a basic drop.
Topspin naturally rotates towards your opponents when it bounces. It helps keep them back.
And if you can keep your opponents back most of the time, youāre almost guaranteed to win.
Here's a video of Rahul demonstrating the tip - good luck with it!
š§āāļø The world's first pickleball spa Is open for business
Destination Canada announced that, starting January 16, reservation waitlists for the world's first winter pickleball spa are now open.
Dubbed DinkDunk Pickleball Spa, the pop-up experience is exactly what it sounds likeāa winter spa featuring cold plunges, winter wellness activities, and, of course, a good bit of pickleballing.
š¾ Four players attempt to set pickleball world record
Four Western Montana pickleball players are attempting to break the world record for the longest continuous game of pickleball.

š¤© Pickleball: Can a game change prison culture?
Earlier this year, Governor Gavin Newsom announced an ambitious goal to transform Californiaās infamous San Quentin State Prison into the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center.
Uncuffed, the podcast, kicks off their third season with a story about one unlikely step toward this change ā it involves nets, sweatbands, and paddles.
Check out our BRAND NEW paddle quiz! Iām really excited about this oneā¦

Pickleball players battle Silicon Valley elites
Another week brings another tale of pickleball players battling noise complaints.
This time, though, itās a drama big enough for the Wall Street Journal to cover.
A clash erupted in San Francisco's Presidio Heights, which a real estate agent describes as āa rarefied community where Silicon Valleyās elite mingle with affluent families.ā
The controversy centers around the use of public pickleball courts near luxury homes. Leading to a petition by residents to limit the sport in the areaā¦
One of which has a pickleball court in the backyard of her $36 million mansion.
Despite the closure of six courts, pickleball enthusiasts remain steadfast. As permanent nets were taken down, players brought their own temporary nets and continued to play.
āUnless they send a ranger to arrest us, weāre using these courts,ā said 62-year-old Suzy Safdie, her eyes flashing. āTry to stop us.ā
Weād love to hear your thoughts on this. Is this another case of pickleball being victimized? Or, do you feel for these residents?
Reply and let us know.
