Excited as always to welcome back Kyle, ThatPickleballGuy, for this weekâs Level Up tip!
What if I told you the people youâre losing to arenât actually better than youâŚ
You see, the reason youâre losing on court has more to do with the mistakes youâre making!
Thereâs actually 2 critical mistakes youâre probably making at the baseline, hereâs how to fix them:
Mistake #1: Serve and step in
This is a common mistake that happens at all levels. You donât want to serve and step in because if your opponentâs return is deep:
Youâll probably have to back pedal and be off-balance.
You wonât be able to put any power on your return.
Youâll most likely pop the ball up.
Instead, serve and stay at the baseline, on your next shot get your weight forward and then move towards the kitchen.
Mistake #2: Return and stay
This happens when you're facing your opponent's serve, you return the ball, and then you stay back at the baseline and play the entire point from this position.
I understand why people do it. Theyâre either afraid to get into the net and closer to the action, or they just donât know the strategy yet.
The optimal strategy here is simple â return your opponent's serve and run up to the kitchen line. Do this every time.
Doing this puts pressure on your opponent and closes off a lot of the court. This makes their return harder.
You may be wondering if this is an effective strategy, well I know the team that plays at the kitchen the most wins the most points⌠itâs in the data!
Hope this helps!
âŚwhat if I told you there're actually six critical mistakes you're making? Two at the baseline, two in mid-court and two at the kitchen.
