😲 This paddle hits like it costs twice as much

Hey Pickleheads readers, Taylor here 👋
I often get asked whether there's a genuinely powerful paddle that doesn't cost $300+. I've been testing the Gherkin Draco, and I've got the answer.
Historically, Gherkin has created value paddles that punch above their price. With the Draco, they've gone into foam-core territory for the first time and managed to keep the price under $180.
The question is: does a $162 paddle (with our PICKLEHEADS code) actually compete with paddles costing twice as much? Boomstik, anyone?
The short answer is YES!
Overall, the Gherkin Draco is a strong 4.5/5, with a perfect score in power. The foam core gives you dwell time, so you're not just blasting the ball. You're placing it. Power and control in the same paddle at this price point is rare, and that combination is what makes it special.
This paddle is not for the faint of heart. If you're still building up to the 4.0 level, the power will take some getting used to. But if you're ready for it, the Draco is Boomstik-level power at half the price.
Use code PICKLEHEADS at checkout ($179.99 → $162)

🤾 5 simple fixes that instantly improve your game
I’m pumped to welcome back Jordan Briones from Briones Pickleball Academy for this week’s Level Up!
Hey Pickleheads readers,
If you want to improve fast, stop chasing complicated fixes. These five tweaks will clean up your game immediately.
1️⃣ Stabilise your wrist
Whether you’re dinking, dropping, or adding topspin, keep your wrist quiet. Consistency comes from a stable contact point, not flicking.
2️⃣ Fix your footwork first
Your contact point is everything. If you’re reaching or off-balance, you’re guessing. Create space with your feet so the ball stays in front.
3️⃣ Stop earlier than you think
Especially in transition. Set your feet before your opponent hits, not after. You’ll feel slower, but you’ll play far more controlled.
4️⃣ Stay anchored at the kitchen
In fast exchanges, don’t jump or drift. Keep both feet grounded and push through the ball. That’s where control and power come from.
5️⃣ Prioritise balance on every shot
Above everything else, get set early. Balance = better decisions, better contact, better results.
Simple, but most players don’t do them.

🎰 The Plaza Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV

Pickleball on a rooftop, surrounded by the downtown skyline, with that unmistakable Fremont Street energy buzzing nearby. This isn’t your quiet morning hit… it’s loud, bright, and chaotic in the best way.
You’re trading dinks with neon signs in the background, then heading straight downstairs into the casino. Play, win, repeat.
If you like your pickleball with a bit of edge (and maybe a side bet), this one’s right on brand.
