🎬 Iconic Bond villain wages war against pickleball

Pickleball has officially gone Hollywood. Actor Robert Davi — best known as Bond villain Franz Sanchez in License to Kill, plus roles in Die Hard and The Goonies — is leading a lawsuit against his Florida HOA over plans to convert tennis courts into pickleball courts just steps from residents’ homes.

Davi, 74, says he’s not against the sport itself. But the sound? That’s another story.

In front of Hillsborough County commissioners, he even mimicked pickleball’s trademark “pong, pong, pong” to make his point: “I could spend three minutes doing that. Would you like that next to your community?”

He and neighbors argue the constant noise would be unbearable — especially for military veterans with PTSD living nearby.

It’s just one of over 200 lawsuits nationwide tied to pickleball noise. Local officials debated restricting courts within 250 feet of homes, but a new state law limiting HOA oversight tied their hands.

By analyzing nearly 100,000 aerial photographs, The New York Times was able to identify more than 26,000 outdoor pickleball courts made in the last seven years — a majority of them at the expense of once-exclusive tennis spaces.
