🇺🇸 Pickleball took over the National Mall (again!)
This past weekend, pickleball returned to one of the most iconic backdrops in America — the National Mall.
From Sept 19–21, 11 temporary courts appeared near 12th Street (by the Smithsonian Metro stop), giving Washingtonians and visitors a chance to play with the Capitol dome in sight.
No reservation? No problem. While online bookings filled quickly, walk-on courts were available. Players checked in at the registration tent to join the rotation and grab a game.
The D.C. Pickleball Team, including our good friend James Ignatowich, ran clinics for beginners, and with paddles provided, all anyone needed was sneakers and a little energy.
The event once again showcased pickleball’s accessible, community-first spirit — and proved that, yes, the nation’s capital loves to dink.

Peer plays pickleball barefoot, a habit inspired by his father, who did many things shoeless after suffering a joint injury.
